B Corp Movement from B Lab on Vimeo.
Our company values remained essential in the journey to getting certified, and they continue to guide us throughout every forward-looking choice we make throughout our operations.
As we engaged with mentors and experts along our B Corp journey, we did so with the aim of true understanding, appreciation, and respect. While implementing any changes, we made space for all to be heard and practiced patience, empathy, and open-mindedness.
This journey to getting certified involved finding and addressing the core issue, reason, and purpose for each change that was made. Doing so with honesty, integrity, alignment, and perseverance was integral to our success.
We relied on our team through trust, connection, and full participation. By being present together, we knew that we could handle anything, and many members of our team spent countless hours learning how to make our operations better.
We always encourage choosing actions that are sustainable for ourselves, Harmonic Arts, and the planet. Every action taken throughout this journey was balanced, solid, renewable, and forward-looking.
While sustainable action is one of our core values, regenerative action is just as important. Not only did we want to maintain the current state of the environment around us, but we wanted to (and continue to) prioritize actions that help nurture new life.
When sourcing the many herbs that go into our plant-powered products, we prioritize organic whenever possible. This way of farming ensures that the soil is being replenished to support fertility, without the use of harmful pesticides and toxins. Learn more about our sourcing practices here.
By prioritizing planet-friendly packaging, we’re providing the earth with nutrients to grow. Our Elixirs and Artisan Teas feature fully compostable packaging (once any stickers are removed) and have kept over 49,000 lbs of waste from landfills, along with the equivalent of 6,163 plastic bottles from entering the ocean last year. Keeping waste from our natural ecosystems allows enough room for its inhabitants to thrive.
As part of our partnership with 1% for the Planet, we donate 1% of every Elixir and Artisan Tea sale to the Cumberland Community Forest Society. These donations go towards buying back land from timber companies and nurturing the abundant trees and habitats with the Cumberland Forest.
While we are thrilled and proud to be a certified B Corporation, that doesn’t mean the work is done. We are continuously striving to increase regenerative action within our operations and work towards supporting the health and wellness of our planet.
We believe that by nurturing the planet, and taking care in using what it has to offer, we’re encouraging a greater care for the planet itself. Focusing on our values throughout this process has allowed us to feel empowered in our learning, and confident in our ability to figure things out as we go.
The entire Harmonic Arts team works in alignment with the company values and are focused on building and shifting our operations together. A willingness to flex based on new information was essential in this journey.

The persistent and vigorous growth of Turkey Tail has been highly revered in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years. It is thought to collect the yang energy of the trees and said to replenish the essence and qi (energy) in the body. Traditionally, Turkey Tail is used to invigorate the spleen, eliminate dampness and wind, relieve cough, help with breathing difficulty, and regulate the immune system.
Within the last 50 years, many large-scale clinical trials and peer reviewed studies have been done on Turkey Tail extracts. This mushroom is packed with triterpenes, and polyphenols, but most of the research has been focused on two of its powerful polysaccharides, PSK (polysaccharide krestin) and PSP (polysaccharide peptide) (1).
PSK and PSP have a number of benefits, but the most significant is their ability to boost immune cell production and enhance tumor infiltration. These compounds have also been shown to help protect the body from the side effects of radiotherapy, significantly extending survival rates in cancer treatment.
The success of Turkey Tail as an immuno-modulator and cancer medicine has made it the most heavily researched medicinal mushroom on the planet. Today, Turkey Tail extracts are the best-selling anti-cancer drug on the Japanese market and are used extensively throughout Asia, Europe, and North America.
Turkey Tail mushroom can support the body's recovery from low immune function and autoimmune conditions. Extracts can regenerate white blood cells and stimulate the activity and creation of T-cells, macrophages and natural killer cells. Turkey Tail has been shown to be anti-pathogenic and anti-viral for a variety of harmful organisms. It has been shown to be effective in assisting recovery from HIV, Herpes, HPV, and Hepatitis C, as well as a variety of other viral infections (2, 3, 4, 5).
Research has shown that the fermentation of PSP by gut bacteria increases levels of beneficial bacteria – such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus spp. – all while reducing less desirable bacteria (6). The benefits of polysaccharides for the human microbiome is an exciting area of research, as gut imbalances are the root cause of many chronic diseases of the 21st century. These polysaccharides calm down gut inflammation and support a healthy ecosystem for quality bacterial communities to thrive in (7).
When it comes to cancer treatment, Turkey Tail is the medicinal mushroom of choice. With over 400 peer reviewed studies and clinical trials, Turkey Tail extracts have shown promising results when used both with and without conventional chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Cancers that have shown the most significant improvement include stomach, colorectal, liver, breast, uterine, esophagus, and lung (8, 9, 10). Turkey Tail extracts can also stimulate the regeneration of bone marrow and enhance immune recovery up to 400% when used in conjunction with radiation therapy (11).
Depending on lifestyle and personal preferences, you may choose to take your Turkey Tail in the form of a powder, capsule, or tincture.

To effectively control moisture within the Mushroom Powder jar, a desiccant is always included. We recommend keeping this desiccant inside the jar, and storing your Mushroom Powder in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed.
If the lid is left off while on the counter and exposed to humidity for too long, the powder will harden. This can happen with humidity in the air, a nearby steaming kettle, or if a spoon with moisture on it is inserted into the powder.
If your Concentrated Mushroom Powder has hardened from exposure to moisture, we suggest any one of the following methods:

The scientific definition of extraction is “the process of selectively removing a compound of interest from a mixture using a solvent.” In this context, the compound of interest is the fruiting body mushroom, and the solvent could be water, alcohol, or both. During the extraction process, our mushrooms are essentially “cooked down” to unlock their healing properties.
Proper extraction will yield potent levels of fungal polysaccharides, triterpenes, and beta-glucans that are easy for your body to absorb. There are two main methods:
Hot water extraction is the most common type of extraction method. It involves heating the mushrooms in large vats of hot water and simmering them for a long period of time as a “decoction.” This type of extraction is necessary to release the water-soluble polysaccharides within the mushrooms, including beta-glucans. Each of our mushrooms undergo hot water extraction to unlock these active compounds.
For mushrooms that are woodier in texture and density, such as Chaga and Reishi, an additional alcohol extraction is necessary to free up beneficial triterpenes. This is accomplished by saturating the fruiting bodies in alcohol for several weeks, and then pressing the liquid out afterwards.
Learn more about our extraction process in this video with our Co-Founder, Yarrow Willard.
When shopping for a mushroom supplement, look for the extraction ratio. This will provide an idea of the amount of mushroom medicine you receive per serving. A high extraction ratio means that the supplement will be potent and easier to digest, giving you a greater concentration of wellness benefits in a small amount of product.
For example, our Reishi Concentrated Mushroom Powder has an extraction ratio of 12:1. This means that every 1 gram (¼ tsp) of Reishi Mushroom Powder consumed is equivalent to 12 grams of whole, fruiting body Reishi.
Depending on lifestyle and personal preferences, you may choose to take your mushrooms in the form of a powder, capsule, or tincture. Need help deciding which form is right for you? Check out our guide here.

The medicine men of the Himalayas became aware of Shilajit by watching animals. One species of monkey lived at a higher elevation on the mountain, and was strong, agile, and communal. The species living on the lower region of the mountain was slower, sickly, and full of conflict. The difference?
The monkeys at the top of the mountain consumed the mineral pitch, also known as Shilajit, while the monkeys living below did not have access to it. Based on these findings, ancient healers began incorporating Shilajit into the medicinal practices of their regions.
For over 3000 years, Shilajit has been used to treat various ailments, such as declined cognitive function, inflammation, blood sugar imbalance, immune dysfunction, and infertility. It is traditionally used in Ayurveda as medhya rasayana, a tonic used to nourish memory, intellect, and longevity. There are two important characteristics of a rasayana compound:
As trade routes opened up, Shilajit made its way from the Himalayas over to Europe. As an herb with high value, it was only purchased and consumed by the wealthy, making it a prized commodity. By the 1900’s, scientists all over Europe and Asia began to study the theories behind Shilajit’s origin, along with its phytochemical properties and wellness benefits. It was soon discovered that variations of this rejuvenating substance could be found in high altitude regions across the world.
To this day, this herbal ally is consumed by people from Nepal to combat altitude sickness and anxiety. The Sherpas of this region have helped Shilajit gain a strong reputation for supporting health and longevity (1).
While perusing the aisles of your favourite health food store, you may notice Shilajit in powder, resin, or liquid form. Depending on the source, either of these options will provide you with the benefits of this herbal ally. When extracted correctly, a powder form can be even more potent than resin or liquid.
At Harmonic Arts, we source our Shilajit powder directly from the Himalayas in India. This region is free from environmental pollutants, and the mineral pitch itself is wild harvested ethically.
Our supplier follows a traditional Ayurvedic purification method, using Triphala powder and high heat to remove impurities. Next, the Shilajit undergoes a cold-water extraction under high pressure to remove any fibres. This part of the process also concentrates the levels of fulvic acid, increasing the potency of the powder.
This potent superfood is packed with fulvic acid, an antioxidant that can take credit for many of Shilajit’s wellness-boosting benefits.
Traditional healing systems have known for thousands of years that Shilajit can support memory, and recent scientific research has backed up this claim. When combined with complex B vitamins, its rich fulvic acid content is shown to improve memory and even delay the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease (2). In a study done with rats, Shilajit proved to enhance learning and memory retrieval, all while soothing anxiety (3).
Known as a “revitalizer” in the scientific community, Shilajit increases adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the body (4). Supplementing with Shilajit regulates ATP synthesis in the muscles during exercise, driving energy to our cells and supporting elevated energy and endurance. Some studies show that it’s as effective as taking CoQ10, an antioxidant that converts food into energy, at facilitating ATP synthesis (5).
Shilajit’s rich fulvic acid content makes it a powerhouse at combating oxidative damage caused by free radicals – even rivalling the antioxidant levels found in blueberries. This also makes Shilajit a complement activator, stimulating the production of antibodies to dispose of damaged cells within the body (1). By preventing and combating free radical damage, Shilajit can delay visible signs of aging.
Considering Shilajit grows in mountainous regions, it makes perfect sense that it can soothe symptoms of altitude sickness. It works to transport nutrients into the tissues, helping to combat fatigue and lethargy. This herbal ally enhances the ability to cope with the stressors of being at a higher altitude, stimulating the immune system to keep us well (6).
Experience the benefits of this herbal ally in its most potent form with our Wild Harvested Shilajit.

Based on its appearance, Ginger originally received the Sanskrit name srngaveram, meaning “horn root.” Its common name hails from the Middle English gingivere, and its Latin name is known as Zingiber officinale.
Ginger’s medicinal uses were first recorded in China, India, and Southeast Asia about 5000 years ago. In the 14th century, the cost of Ginger was incredibly high. By the Middle Ages, it could be found on the dinner table much like salt and pepper are today. Ginger was enjoyed dried, pickled, preserved for sweets, mixed into beer as “ginger ale,” and as a tonic for wellness.
This herbal hero was traditionally used to ward off the plague, soothe nausea, and provide relief from headaches. It was also used to improve circulation, and even to increase libido.
Inflammation is a symptom associated with many ailments of the body. Fortunately, Ginger has been valued for its potent anti-inflammatory properties for centuries. It’s packed with several compounds that inhibit the inflammatory response in the body (1). Ginger can combat Rheumatoid Arthritis (2) and there is promising evidence showing it may provide relief from asthma triggered by allergies (3).
Ginger's anti-inflammatory properties provide deep support for the immune system. Ginger can increase levels of Natural Killer cell lysis, which breaks down cells that are infected by a virus (4). It also boosts levels of antibodies that combat pathogenic infection (5).
Another well-known benefit of Ginger is its soothing effects on the digestive system. In many cultures, this herbal ally is used to provide relief from IBS, gas, and bloating by increasing digestive enzymes (6). It can even prevent nausea and discomfort associated with motion sickness (7). Ginger has also been shown to increase levels of beneficial bacteria in the gut microbiome, including essential Bifidobacterium (8).
Recent studies are proving Ginger’s benefits for women’s reproductive wellness. Its antioxidant-rich and anti-inflammatory compounds provide soothing relief from symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome, including bloating, cramping, and mood swings (9). Ginger can also combat dysmenorrhea, also known as severely painful menstruation (10).
We’ve intentionally added this potent herbal ally to a wide variety of our formulations.

We're committed to making choices that are good for you, and good for the planet, and are proud to share the steps we’ve taken along our B Corp certification journey.
Our company values have kept us grounded throughout our entire B Corp journey.
We seek to improve every single day, within Harmonic Arts and ourselves. We strive for progress, not perfection, by reflecting on how to make positive changes. Over time, regular incremental improvements lead to substantial transformation.
We engage with the aim of true understanding, appreciation, and respect of where others are coming from. We make space for all to be heard and practice patience, empathy, and open-mindedness.
We find and address the core issue, reason, and purpose of everything we do. Honesty, integrity, alignment, and perseverance are key.
We rely on our team through trust, connection, and full participation. By being present together, we can handle anything.
We encourage choosing actions that are sustainable for ourselves, Harmonic Arts, and the planet. We focus on building blocks, not band-aids, and betterment, not burnout. Every action is balanced, solid, renewable, and forward-looking.
After years of learning, shifting, and growing, every member of the Harmonic Arts team contributed to this achievement. Here’s how we made it happen:
We’ve implemented over 10 new policies, documents, and processes since we started our B Corp journey in 2021. This includes a Supplier Code of Conduct that defines standards for fair, safe, and healthy working conditions and encourages environmental responsibility throughout our supply chain.
We’ve earned Green badges from BC Green Business every year since 2021 after implementing their suggestions for lowering our impact on the planet.
We completed the B Corp Foundations Program in April of 2022. Formerly known as Getting to 80, This program helped us refine what making an impact means for us and prepared us for the B Impact Assessment.
We became Climate Smart Certified in October of 2022. This involved collecting data to get a picture of our carbon footprint and devising an emissions reduction plan.
We completed and submitted our B Impact Assessment in August of 2022, and by June 2023, we received an overall B Impact score of 83.6.
The B Impact Score is made up of five pillars: Governance, Environment, Workers, Community, and Customers. Each section below provides a few examples of the policies and procedures we have in place, allowing us to achieve our B Corp Certification.
Harmonic Arts is committed to upholding high ethical standards while promoting a culture of integrity throughout the organization. Each team member has easy access to our company values, Employee Handbook, and our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics policy.
We promote transparency, accountability, and effective decision-making at all levels of the organization, which helps to build trust and confidence among employees, customers, and other stakeholders.
Our mission is to provide effective and easy-to-use herbal products that empower everyone on their path to wellness. Since this Impact Business Model is designed to cultivate a positive outcome for the health of our customers, community, and planet, we earned a Mission Lock within the governance pillar of our assessment. This is a requirement for all certified B Corporations and worth 10 points of our score.
Harmonic Arts has been Climate Smart certified for two years in a row now! Achieving this certification involves measuring our greenhouse gas emissions, crafting goals to reduce them, and taking action to meet those goals.
We believe that incorporating environmental considerations into product design is an important step towards minimizing our environmental impact. 83% of our packaging is currently compostable or recyclable, and by continuing to review our product packaging, design, reuse, and recyclability, we are committed to making further improvements.
About 87% of the herbs within our plant-powered products are Certified Organic. We prioritize sourcing from organic production because it replenishes and maintains soil fertility without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. As organic cultivation is planned for, it is inherently sustainable and regenerative. It encourages practices that increase biodiversity and reduce negative environmental impacts.
Each Harmonic Arts team member has access to health and lifestyle spending accounts that allow them to allocate funds towards products and services that promote a healthy lifestyle.
Every quarter, each team member is gifted a Harmonic Arts product to support their wellness. Various self-care products or additional paid time off are also gifted periodically throughout the year to encourage rest and revitalization.
We are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all our employees and continue to invest in safety measures that support the Harmonic Arts team.
We have a Supplier Code of Conduct – included within every purchase order – that outlines fair, safe, and environmentally responsible standards throughout the supply chain. By working closely with suppliers, we can ensure that we are sourcing the highest quality ingredients for our products. These long-standing relationships also provide stability in the supply chain, which helps to minimize disruptions and ensure that products are consistently available to customers. Cultivating relationships with suppliers allows us to stay up to date on industry trends and innovations, which can ultimately lead to the development of new and improved products.
With around half of our sales coming from products that have Natural Product Numbers (NPNs), we’re actively nurturing the wellness of our customers. NPNs are issued by Health Canada to indicate that a natural health product has been assessed and found to be safe, effective, and of high quality. This means the product has undergone testing and that every health claim we make about the product is supported by scientific evidence. These include our Mushroom Powders, Capsules, and Tinctures, along with our herbal Tincture Blends and most of our Single Herb Tinctures and Syrups.
We believe in uniting people and the planet through the power of plant medicine while keeping ethical and sustainable action at the heart of what we do. It’s important that we make the effort to continuously improve our business and build trust with our community, all while providing you with the plant-powered products you know and love.

Documented use of nootropics can be traced as far back as 6000 BCE within Ayurvedic manuscripts. Referred to as “Medhya Rasayanas,” these herbs were known to improve memory and intelligence. The use of natural nootropics comes up in other manuscripts throughout Arabia, Egypt, and Sumeria, to name a few (1).
The term “nootropics” was coined in the 1960s, when chemist and psychologist C.G. Giurgea used it to describe a group of substances that can enhance brain function. Their name comes from the Greek words "nous," meaning mind, and "trepein," meaning “to bend.”
Over time, more scientists began to research the potential of nootropics, leading to the creation of many other substances that boost cognitive function. In our fast-paced, modern world, many people use them to enhance memory and focus, or to simply improve their overall quality of life.
In a study done on adults struggling with cognitive impairment, Ashwagandha proved helpful. Participants took either 300 mg of Ashwagandha or a placebo twice per day for 8 weeks. The Ashwagandha group saw immediate and sustained improvements in memory, executive function, focus and information processing (2).
Find Ashwagandha in our Uplifted Spirits Tincture.
This herbal ally is another neuroprotective brain booster. Ginkgo can greatly improve concentration and alertness while decreasing debilitating symptoms like tinnitus and dizziness (3). With consistent use, Gingko can support short-term and long-term memory improvements (4).
Find Ginkgo in our Clarity Artisan Tea.
Holy Basil can cultivate capacity for better short-term memory and cognitive flexibility – our ability to learn – by soothing stress and boosting glutathione peroxidase activity. This is an enzyme that increases antioxidant levels and protects the brain cells and neurons from oxidative damage (5, 6).
Find Holy Basil in our Adapt Artisan Tea.
There have been several studies done using Lion's Mane to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s. While results vary, they show compelling evidence that supports improved myelination of nerve fibers. Results also show suppression of the inflammatory process responsible for brain damage (7).
Try Lion’s Mane in Capsule, Powder, or Tincture form.

Lemon Balm’s Latin name, Melissa officinalis, was given to this herb for its ability to attract pollinators. “melissa” means “honey bee” in Greek, and it was often planted near beehives – sometimes even rubbed onto them – to encourage the bees to keep coming back.
Its common name was inspired by the Greek word, “balsamon,” which translates to “an oily, sweet-smelling resin.” Rubbing the leaves of a Lemon Balm plant will release a sweet and uplifting lemony scent.
Historically, there have been many variations that reference the common name. An old Arabian proverb states that “Balm makes the heart merry and joyful.” Many folk herbalists will tell you that Lemon Balm cultivates feelings of peace and tranquility.
Lemon Balm has been traditionally used for thousands of years to soothe symptoms of depression, anxiety, and insomnia. It was even a choice herb for royalty as it was believed to promote vitality and a long life. Lemon Balm was often included in “elixirs of youth” in medieval times due to its uplifting nature. It was also infused into wine along with warming spices to promote rest and digestion. Some Indigenous cultures use Lemon Balm for salves and herbal infusions to treat cramping, headaches, and anxiety.
Lemon Balm can help relieve symptoms of nervous system exhaustion, anxiety, and depression. Its benefits are potent, and it has been shown to reduce feelings of anxiety within one hour (1). With long-term use, Lemon Balm can rid folks of their anxiety entirely. It calms a racing heart, uplifts the mind, and can help promote deep, restful sleep (2).
This herbal ally contains rosmarinic acid, which is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. One study paired Lemon Balm with Dandelion in a 2:1 ratio to explore their effects on the liver. They found that levels of pro-inflammatory mediators were significantly decreased, while antioxidant activity increased (3).
Lemon Balm’s ability to soothe stress allows for more capacity in the brain. Studies show that this herb can boost alertness and even mathematical processing at higher doses (1). Lemon Balm can also improve accuracy and focus, along with working memory (4).
Our intentional formulations make it easy to incorporate this soothing herb into your routine.
