Product Description

Urtica dioica

Once native to Africa and western Asia, nettle is now found growing in temperate climates across the globe. Its fiber is similar to that of flax or hemp and has been used in the production of clothing for thousands of years. Nettle is a widely applicable herb that strengthens and supports the whole body, acting primarily on protein pathways. It aids in the removal of protein waste from the body, acting as a remedy for gout, arthritis, and muscular soreness. It contains chlorophyll, formic acid, amino acids, acetylcholine, flavonoids, vitamins, proteins, dietary fiber and minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium. Nettle also has astringent properties and aids with immune response, liver metabolism, skin reactions, and kidney elimination. Nettle leaf also has a long tradition as a tonic food for pregnant women. In that capacity, it is often blended with raspberry leaf and alfalfa and drunk freely throughout all stages of pregnancy.

Suggested use: 1-3 teaspoons of the dried herb in an infusion or decoction. 2-5 ml of the tincture. The leaves can be steamed and eaten in salads, pastas or other food dishes.
