Anise Seed - Organic
Anise is an annual plant native to the Mediterranean region of Egypt. It has a strong licorice-like flavour attributed to anethole which, by affecting the parasympathetic nervous system, calms the involuntary muscles of the digestive tract. The Romans used the seed to flavor their cakes, which they ate to settle their stomachs after heavy meals. Anise is also the essence of the popular Greek drink ouzo which is a common digestive. Anise seed can also help alleviate bad breath, colic, constipation, flatulence, indigestion, and migraines. It contains B vitamins, choline, calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium. It is common in Portuguese, German and Scandinavian desserts and is often used as a flavouring in candies, liqueurs, and savoury dishes.
