¼ to ½ teaspoon as an infusion or decoction. 10-20 drops of the tincture in 1oz water 2-3 times daily before meals.
Peppermint is a perennial herb native to Europe that grows easily in moist soil. Traditionally, the Greeks and Romans would crown themselves with the leaf during their dinner banquets, while their cooks would use the herb to flavour dishes. Peppermint contains flavonoids, acetic acid, tannins, resin, gum, triterpenes, and essential oils mostly made up of menthol. It supports the gastrointestinal tract, gallbladder and bile ducts, and also helps with fever, chills, flu, and indigestion. It can be used on its own or combined with other herbs. Peppermint also helps promote fluid production in dry, irritated joints. The oil is used in dental creams, toothpaste, and mouthwash, as well as cough candies, chewing gum, and baked goods.
