(Pouteria Lucuma)

Suggested Use

Lucuma fruit powder can be added to any beverage, smoothie, nut mylk, yogurt, granola, pudding or baking. Lucuma helps combine and emulsify fats and oils with sugars and polysaccharides, making it ideal for gourmet ice cream products, nutritional supplements and functional elixir and tonic beverages.

More Information

Lucuma powder is made from the subtropical fruit of the Pouteria lucuma tree, which is native to Peru, Chile and Ecuador. It is a starchy yellowish egg shaped fruit. The taste is described from maple to caramel to sweet potato like. As it has a distinct sweet taste it can be used as a sweetener alternative without spiking the blood sugar, unlike empty calorie sweeteners. This makes it useful for Diabetics or those looking to restrict sugar intake.

It has been used for centuries in South America for its medicinal properties. Rutgers University conducted a study that evaluated the anti-inflammatory effect of lucuma extract on wound healing and skin aging. Results of the trial determined that lucuma significantly increased wound closure and promoted tissue regeneration. The report concluded that lucuma may have anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and skin-repair effects on human skin.
